Reading of texts:

1) Hesiod, Theogony or Homer, one book at choice;

2) A selection from Greek lyric poetry (numbers refer to the edition by Degani and Burzacchini quoted below): Archilochus: 2, 3, 5, 6, 8; Hipponax: 7, 8, 9, 18, 19, 20; Tyrtaeus: 1-2; Mimnermus: 1, 2; Solon: 1; Xenophanes: 1, 2; Sappho: 1, 2, 3, 11, 12; Alcaeus: 2, 4, 5, 7, 8; Anacreon: 3, 9; Alcman: 1, 3, 5; Stesichorus: 1, 2; Ibycus: 1, 2; Simonides: 1-2); Pindarus, Olympian I.

3) Menander, The Shield;

4) a text to be chosen among:

- Herodotus, The Histories I 1-13, 23-45; VII 223-228;

- Aristotle, Poetics, chapt. 1, 3, 4, 6, 11, 12;

- Lucianus, Dialogues of the Gods.

Students of Classics ar requested to read all the texts listed above in the original. Students of Cultural Heritage can read two of them in translation, together with two books to be chosen from this list:
