## Learning Objectives

• Medical Statistics

The course will provide basic elements to let the student be able to describe individual and population based biological events through syntetic indeces. Moreover, the student should be able to identify and use elementary metodologies of analysis of numerical data.

• - Modulo LINGUA INGLESE

The course aims at strengthening the students’ skills in conformity to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. In particular, the course is set to develop the students’ vocabulary and the use of syntactic functions with respect to English for scientific and medical purposes and to provide students with a pragmatic tool for linguistic investigation and analysis of specific oral and written texts. Students will be able to: 1) interact with a degree of fluency that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible; 2) understand extended speech and lectures on scientific topics; 3) explain a viewpoint on medical and scientific issues, giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options. Provide dentistry students the language skills to translate texts and scientific articles regarding their field of study. The reading of original texts in English language and also allows them to improve their knowledge of useful syntax and grammar for the production of written texts. Vocabulary is furthermore an important part of learning a language because it permits to surf the Internet for online consultation of the scientific literature, to stay up to date and to communicate.

1. Measurers: numerical, ordinal and nominal

2. Descriptive measurers: central tendency and variability

3. Probability and Bayes Theorem

4. Probability distributions: binomial, Poisson and gaussian

5. Hypothesis tests and their meaning

6. Student t test, chi square

7: Correlation and regression

8. Epidemiology: sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, incidence and prevalence rates

Learn about the basics of English grammar and syntax for the oral and written comprehension of scientific texts and diagnostic reports. The Human Body, with particular attention to the teeth and mouth. The medical record. Diabetes and hypertension. The psychological approach in patient care (motivation, effective communication). Etiology, symptoms and treatment of oral disease (gingivitis, periodontitis, pulpitis). The dental hygiene, dental terminology. Who is the dentist and what does the dentist do? Blood tests. Dental emergencies (extraction, dental pain). Fixed prosthesis. Sinuses. Caries. Gingivitis. Dental erosion. The preservation of the tooth. Principles of cosmetic dentistry. Dental treatment in adults and in children.
