Learning Objectives

The aim of Conservative Dentistry I course is to teach how to recognize, approach and resolve simple cases of conservative (operative) dentistry. In particular, the student should be able to: recognize and use appropriately the tools and materials used for conservative dentistry; classify, diagnose and treat the hard dental tissues lesions by different restorative materials; manage the basic knowledge about the morphology and normal or altered by dental disease processes structure of teeth; understanding the aetiology and physiopathology of dental decay in order to establish a diagnosis and proper procedures for its prevention and conservative treatment; diagnose all pathologies that require a conservative treatment; know the classic principles of decay treatment: the cavity preparation for amalgam and composite; the materials and instruments used in operative dentistry, the use of rubber dam; recognize the signs of conservative treatment.

Dental semeiology. The treatment plan. The radiology in restorative dentistry. The photographs in restorative dentistry. Drugs in restorative dentistry. Local anesthesia in restorative dentistry. Informed consent in restorative dentistry. Dental Ergonomy. Working positions. Operating schemes at the chair. The optimization of the operating time. Instruments and trays. Contamination and decontamination. Disinfection and Sterilization. Humidity control and isolation of the operative field. Rubber Dam. Cavity preparations of first and second class of Black. Reconstructions of teeth with the aid of matrix. Pulpal - dentinal protection. Defense of pulp vitality. Direct and indirect pulp capping.
