Learning Objectives

The course aims at strengthening the students’ skills in conformity to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. In particular, the course is set to develop the students’ vocabulary and the use of syntactic functions with respect to English for scientific and medical purposes and to provide students with a pragmatic tool for linguistic investigation and analysis of specific oral and written texts. Students will be able to: 1) interact with a degree of fluency that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible; 2) understand extended speech and lectures on scientific topics; 3) explain a viewpoint on medical and scientific issues, giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.



Detailed Course Content

• grammar of the English language, with particular attention to the forms most frequently used in the scientific literature;

Phonetics

-Articles: determinative / indefinite / partitive.

- Pronounspersonal (subject and object) / interrogative, possessive, reflective, relative.

- Positive: the formation of the regular / irregular plural.

-Adjectives.

-Prepositions: time / place.

-Verbs: present / past / future / conditional - hypothetical periods type 0 / I / II / III - passive.

Modal verbs. Comparative- superlatives - Verbs in Gerundio- Infinite

Duration form.
