The student will demonstrate knowledge of procedures historic relationship between Europe and the Mediterranean region. After completing this module, students will be able to develop analytical skills and develop draft study of historical processes relating to the relationship between Europe / West and the Mediterranean region, according to the tools and methodologies of contemporary history.

Il corso ripercorre le principali tappe della storia del Medio Oriente e del Nord Africa dall'invasione francese dell'Egitto (1798) alla fine del XX secolo. Gli sviluppi a livello locale e regionale saranno messi in relazione ai processi globali e particolare attenzione sarà data ai temi della "modernizzazione difensiva" e dell'imperialismo, dei movimenti nazionali e della costruzione dello Stato-nazione, delle ideologie politiche come panarabismo, islamismo, socialismo.

Oral Exams
Assessment will be based on students’ attendance, paper presentation, and participation in class debates. The final exam will also count towards overall assessment.
