Learning Objectives

To acquire language skills related to Spanish morphosyntax.

To analyze the different types of texts (descriptive, narrative, expository, argumentative texts) and develop communication and cultural skills in order to carry out the linguistic analysis of written or oral texts (connectors and discourse markers, deictic, discursive forms, etc.).

To reflect on the major theories of translation in order to develop an adequate translation competence from a metalinguistic and contrastive perspective.

The course is aimed at developing a linguistic and communicative competence corresponding to the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.



Detailed Course Content

The course will cover the following areas:

  1. Profundización del análisis sintáctico: particular attention will be devoted to Spanish morphosyntax, starting from “oración compleja”;

  2. Tipologías textuales y comentario de textos: the concept of text types will be dealt with the various types of texts too (descriptive, narrative, expository, argumentative texts). The main aim is to introduce students to the writing of a linguistic comment.

3. Teoría y práctica de la traducción en perspectiva metalingüística y contrastiva: students will learn about modern Translation theories through pedagogical translation activities in order to raise awareness about the asymmetries Spanish and Italian. The concept of equivalence in the field of Translation Studies will be presented as well as the translation techniques and translation errors. The main objective will be the development of an adequate translation competence.
