The teaching of the General Chemistry part I has the goal of giving the first notions of General Chemistry which will be extremely useful to afford the successive chemical topics . For the first time the student will be able to learn about chemical processes with particular attention to the reactions in gaseous phase and in aqueous solution. The concept of chemical equilibrium will be introduced with particular attention to the treatment of chemical equilibria in aqueous solution. Notions of atomic theory and chemical bond with particular attention to the study of the molecular geometries will be also the subject.of this course, given that the students in the second semester will begin the study of Organic Chemistry.
Atoms and molecules
Atomic mass, Molecolar mass, empirical formula, percentages of elements in a compound.
Chemica equations, balancing a chemical reaction, the law of conservation of mass.
Chemical equations and their balancing, oxidation number balancing of redox reactions, the concept of equivalent for acid-base reaction, the concept of equivelent fo redox , oxidizing and reducing agents, reaction yields.
Gaseous systems.
Volume, pressure, temperature; laws of gases, daensity of gases , partial pressures and volumes, reactions among gases, Calculations on the rchemical reaction containing gases.
Solutions.
Solution concentration; mixing and dilution of solutions, volumetric analysis, colligative properties; dissociation of ionic scompounds and colligative properties.
The chemical equilibrium.
Equilibrium constants; use of equilibrium constants in the determination of equilibrium concentrations.
Electrolyte dissociation equilibria.
