Learning Objectives

The course of Advanced Biochemistry provides students with deep knowledge of those bichemical processes particularly interesting concerning variuos physio-pathological aspects.



Detailed Course Content

The principal topics concern:

  1. Mitochondrial respiratory chain and energy managing.
  2. Photosynthesis and energy managing
  3. Nutritional Biochemistry: caloric intake and natrium balance.
  4. Metabolic changes: nutrition-fast cycle.
  5. Glicemy control: metabolic correlations.
  6. Advanced glycation end products: production and effects.
  7. Plasmatic lipoproteins (dislipidemy).
  8. Special aminoacids metabolism (metionin, folic acid, cystein, arginine).
  9. Mechanisms of hormones activity and growth factors.
  10. Molecular basis of angiogenesis in tumors and neurodegenerative diseases.
  11. Elements of Neurochimistry.
  12. Biochemical laboratory.
