The course of Criminal Law and Criminology intends to acquire in-depth knowledge on the social phenomenon of crime, especially the ways in which it is perceived, defined and addressed. The notion of crime (and criminality) should be considered closely related to that of the penal system, intended for both normative and institutional dimensions (the set of laws, judges, police, etc.) and also in the social and cultural ones. The module is dedicated to the study of the historical, social and cultural factors that have led to the emergence of criminology, with particular attention to the contributions of the positive school in Italy during the nineteenth century.
The second module is dedicated to the description of amendments and changes, firstly in its definition, which is required when addressing the problem of organized crime and terrorism. The forms and phenomena of organized crime is a top priority for both the criminal law and the politics, and their analysis have a mainly sociological characterization when considering phenomena in their overall social and historical dimension.

The development of criminal sociology in the United States. Interactionist perspective in sociology of deviance and crime. Labeling theory and total institutions. The contributions of psychology and studies concerning aggression.
