Learning Objectives

Acquisition of knowledges for the characterization of the territory on the basis of the geological, geomorphological and tectonic setting. Capability of evaluation of the environmental risk through the study of the hazard factors of events related to the main geological and geomorphological processes. Competence in the analysis and interpretation of large-scale geological data in order to protect the landscape and the environment.

Detailed Course Content

Geomechanical characterization of rocks and slopes evolution. Fluvial morphology. Fluvial rejuvenation processes and headward erosion. Outlines of hydrogeological risk. Effects of the human activities on the river balance. Landslides: causes, the role of the water, studying and monitoring phases and measures taken to consolidate. Drainage basins: drainage systems and geological factors, morphometric study and hierarchical arrangement of the rivers. Coastal morphology: littoral processes, beaches, cliffs and marine terraces. Outlines of faults, folds and earthquakes. Topography: recognition of complex landscapes on topographic maps at 1:10.000 and 1:25.000 scale. Analysis and interpretation of thematic maps.
