Nucleic Acids Convey Genetic Information - Weak and strong chemical bonds - The Structure of DNA - The Structure of RNA - Techniques of Molecular Biology - Genome Structure, Chromatin and the Nucleosome - The Replication of DNA - The Mutability and Repair of DNA - Site Specific Recombination and Transposition of DNA - Mechanisms of Transcription - RNA Splicing - Translation - The Genetic Code - Origins and early evolution of life - Transcriptional Regulation in Prokaryotes - Transcriptional Regulation in Eukaryotes. Examples from bacteriophage, bacteria, lower and higher eukaryotes will be used to illustrate these different areas of molecular biology.
