Learning Objectives

1. Knowledge and understanding: since the main purpose of this course is to foster students’ learning of the four linguistic skills, which are pivotal to support a linguistic competence defined by the intermediate level, main features of syntax and morphology will be analyzed, with specific reference to phonetics, lexis of connected speech, English usages in the economic field, related to the degree’s objectives.

2. Applying knowledge and understanding: students will be required to apply their linguistic competences and to communicate fluently, with specific lexis and correct syntax, concerning several topics of the professional field.

3. Making judgements: linguistic competence is crucial for a practical application of ESP to national and international work contexts.

4. Communication skills: communication skills, which will be assessed through oral and written tests, are meant to provide students with adequate tools to gain international work experience.

5. Learning skills: the course aims at developing students' autonomous learning skills.



Detailed Course Content

I MODULE (3 CFU) – English Grammar
Syllabus description: Basic grammar and contrastive grammar, written and oral exercises. Exercises related to comprehension, rewritings and syntactical transformations.

II MODULE (4 CFU) – Business Theory
Syllabus description: the main aim is to allow students to know Business English contents and specific lexis, for this this reason attentio will be paid to ESP and Business materials, highlighting syntactical and lexical similes and contrasts, using texts and videos, to enhance reading, listening e speaking skills. In this contexts, specific attention will be paid to the following topics: Management, Marketing, Advertising, Production, Logistics (Incoterms), Products and brands (labels), Banking, Bonds, Stocks and Shares (Investors and investments), Company structure, Business cycle, Business organization, E-Commerce, Green Economy.

III MODULE (3 CFU) – Business Communication
Syllabus description: the main purpose of this module is written production, in order to allow students to rework what they have learnt. Different texts typologies will be discussed, as orders, replies, complaints, CV, reports, etc. Moreover, in order to conside r EAP features, scientific products will be discussed.
