Learning Objectives

The teaching is divided into two parts that are closely related.

The general course (5 ECTS) aims to the knowledge of the peculiar characteristics of the cultural, economics, philosophical, religious and social foundations from the Edict of Tolerance (313A. D.) to the action of Martin Luther (1483­1546) inside the variegated world of the medieval society (centuries IV-XVI). The monographic course (4 ECTS) deals with the Order of Predicants. The history of Ordo Praedicatorum, founded in 1215 and approved in 1216, will be analysed in every aspect: from the cultural formation to the preaching, from the confrontation with heretics to the urban space. The development of the Order of Predicants from the 13th to the 16th century will leave deep traces on following ages.


Course Structure

The course will take place in the manner of lectures, in which the teacher will develop the program.



Detailed Course Content

Description of historic events that have characterized the Middle Ages. (centuries IV-XVII). The course pays particular attention to the origins and development of the Order of Predicants (centuries XIII-XVI).
