Learning Objectives

Learning of a critical method for a philological-literary analysis of prosaic and poetic texts, for the definition of the main literary genres.

Course Structure


If the teaching is given in a mixed or remote mode, the necessary changes may be introduced with respect to what was previously stated, in order to comply with the program envisaged and reported in the Syllabus.

Detailed Course Content

Reading, translation, and philological-stylistic commentary of selected prosaic and poetic texts, with prosodic and metric analysis of the poetic language. In particular, analysis of forms of visual writing through reading, translation, stylistic- philological commentary of texts with prosodic-metrical analysis of the poetic language.

Textbook Information

A) Basics (5 ECTS)

The knowledge of the basics of the History of Latin Literature is required, with special regard to the literary movements, literary genres, and main authors. Students can be use one of the following texts, already adopted in the course of Latin language and literature for Bachelor's Degree in Letters:

B) Detailed Studies (3 ECTS)

The evidentia of the invisible: forms and functions of the ‘visual writing’ from the comedy to the epos.



C) Critical Essays (1 ECTS)

The knowledge of one of the following studies (elective/optional) is required:
