Learning Objectives

The aim of the course is to make people understand how plant communities represent the integrated response to environmental conditions. To understand the relationship between plants and the environment it is necessary to know the main ecological factors that influence the life of the plants and the mechanisms of adaptation that the plants assume towards the ecological factors. Acquire the basic knowledge to tackle the floristic and vegetational studies and the return of the data in cartographic form.

Course Structure

Lectures in the classroom and exercises on the main Italian habitats

Should teaching be carried out in mixed mode or remotely, it may be necessary to introduce changes with respect to previous statements, in line with the programme planned and outlined in the syllabus.

Detailed Course Content

main relationships between plant life and environmental factors: climatic factors (light and temperature, water), edaphic factors (nature and type of substrate and nutrient input), mechanical factors (wind, snow, animals), anthropic factors (fire, pasture , agriculture), factors linked to reproduction (type of pollination); indirect factors: altitude, exposure, inclination; microclimate. Main adaptations (morphological and physiological) to environmental factors *. The distribution of plants *. Climate and plant formations *. Biodiversity; morphological and reproductive phenology; floristic elaborations (number, biological spectrum, chorological spectrum); biological forms *; corotypes, areas and distribution centers *; concept of endemism *. Methods of studying vegetation. Distribution of vegetation according to environmental factors *; vegetable community; physiognomic and structural complexity; quali-quantitative study and phytosociological method; concept of plant association and syntaxonomic organization; minimum area.

Indicate with an asterisk, *, the minimum arguments that can not be renounced for passing the exam
