Learning Objectives

Acquisition of main skills to analyse critically Greek and Roman sculpture, and to establish their chronology through typological classification.


Course Structure

Class-rooms lessons will be implemented by small trips aimed to test and consolidate the skills acquired on stylistic analysis. The course is structured in 6 parts: the first is devoted to periodization and chronology; the second to the main building types of Greek and Roman art; the third is devoted to iconography; the last three sections are aimed to the acquisition to critical skills with particular regard to sculpture.



Detailed Course Content

Main documents of Greek and Roman art, with a particular attention to iconographic motifs, analysed in relation to the historical and social context of every period. Analysis of main sculptural monuments of Greek art.
