Teaching Staff

CHIARA MARIA PULVIRENTI

Course Structure

Traditional lectures, classroom exercise, experiences on the field in archives and public libraries.

Detailed Course Content

The course will deal with issues and problems of historical research, both from the point of view of the analysis of the scientific literature of historical disciplines and from the point of view of handling sources. Therefore, the technical aspects of production, inventory, cataloging and conservation of archival and bibliographic sources will be considered with particular attention. Moreover, the focus will be on the role of new information technologies and the possibilities introduced by the digitization and dissemination of important funds on the web by various public archives and private and significant bibliographic assets (for example Google Books, Archive.org, Gallica.fr). Finally, we will reflect on the changing relationship between historical truth, fiction and fake news, on the role of the historian, on the public dimension of history and on the meaning of the historiographic revision.
