Learning Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide the fundamental concepts for deepening the chemical knowledge of industrial applications and the catalytic processes involved. To provide criterions for the classification of the chemical industry in terms of products, raw materials and types of chemical transformations. During the course, problems related to material and energy balances concerning industrial chemical processes will also be discussed.

Detailed Course Content

Introduction to industrial chemistry. Industrial chemical processes for oil refining. Petrochemistry and preparation of basic organic products. Production of synthesis gas and products derived from it. Catalysts and catalytic processes in heterogeneous and homogeneous phase. Biocatalysis. Industrial chemistry of inorganic products. Production of fine chemicals. Industrial production of polymers and transformation processes. Degradation and stabilization of polymeric materials. Composite materials. Introduction to the sugar, oil and fat industry; surfactant synthesis. Process intensification
