Learning Objectives

• Internal Medicine, channel 3, 2019-20
  

  The aim of the course is to teach the student how to integrate structural and functional symptoms, signs and alterations and to aggregate them in a global assessment of the health status of the individual adult under a diagnostic and therapeutic profile. Clinical and therapeutic problems related in particular to complex multi-organ pathologies will be analyzed, entering the field of differential diagnostics and therapy. At the end of the course the student must be able to recognize and discuss the fundamental aspects concerning the diagnosis of location, nature diagnosis, prognosis, assessment of the patient's complexity and individuality, and the treatment of the main diseases of internal relevance.

  - Evidence-based medicine

  - Methodology of solving clinical problems, critical reading of clinical studies

  Differential diagnosis and principles of therapy of the following conditions:

  - Ischemic heart disease

  - Heart failure

  - Tachi and bradyarrhythmias

  - Kidney failure

  - Liver cirrhosis

  - Hypertension

  - Anemia

  - Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome

  - Dyslipidemia

  - Hypo and hypertrophic diseases

  - Hemorrhagic syndromes

  Diagnostic approach and principles of therapy:

  - to the patient with jaundice and / or cholestasis - portal hypertension

  - to the patient with diarrhea or constipation

  - to the patient with gastrointestinal hemorrhage

  - to the patient with dysphagia-vomiting

  - at the patient with hematuria - proteinuria - edema;

  - to the patient with chest pain - abdominal pain

  - to the patient with anemia, lymphadenomegaly, splenomegaly

  - to the patient with dyspnea

  - to the patient with hypoxia, cyanosis

  - at the patient with arterial hypertension

  - to the patient with shock

  - to the patient with alterations of the acid-base balance

  - to the patient with alterations of the water balance

  - to the patient with alterations in the metabolism of sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus

  - to the patient in coma (hepatic, uremic, hyperosmolar, ketoacidosic, hypoglycemic

  - to the patient with fever and hyperthermia

   

  Professionalizing teaching activity

  - Interpret clinical studies

  - Carry out the differential diagnosis of the main internal medical conditions

  - Identify diagnostic and therapeutic priorities

  - Set treatment and identify therapy goals

  - Recognize any treatment complications

  - Educate the patient on home management of the therapy

  - Judge the need for hospitalization and / or the opportunity for hospital discharge
