Learning Objectives

• ANESTHESIOLOGY AND EMERGENCY TREATMENT
  

  Recognise clinical emergencies, provide first aid acts in order to guarantee survival and best avalaible assistance. Knowing how to act in maxi-emergencies. Know how to intervene. To study the anesthesia practiced in the dental field and the drugs used.

  To orientate the student to learn the fundamentals of the major and most frequent cardiovascular diseases, integrating the pathophysiological study with the clinical methodology, the diagnostic procedures, and the pharmacological treatment directly and indirectly related to the practice of dentistry, in order to understand the indications of the pharmacological therapy of systemic pathologies, the interferences with the dental therapies, and their optimal management.

• ANESTHESIOLOGY AND EMERGENCY TREATMENT
  
  • Anesthesia in dental practice: legislative references to national and European community
  • Preoperative clinical evaluation, properative exam and informed consent
  • Minimum requirements for dentistry ambients
  • Definition of sedation, local anesthesia (main points)
  • General anesthesia (main points)
  • Sedation and drugs scale
  • Phases of the anesthetic proceedings
  • Drugs for sedation and general anesthesia
  • Local anesthetics: classification, mechanism and duration of action and association with vasoconstrictors
  • Guidelines for conscious sedation, inhalation and intravenous in a dental care structure
  • Anesthesia practice in dentistry on adults and kids with disabilities
  • Emergencies: anaphylaxis, fainting, acute respiratory failure, state of asthma, arrhytmias. Cardiac arrest.
  • Monitoring of vital signs and basic life support.
