TARGET By the end of the nursing program, the student will be prepared to identify and respond to the needs of patients in a variety of different settings, by applying the fundamentals of the nursing process and the most effecting nursing documentation in the nursing medical field, in order to deliver the best and safest nursing care for all patients. INTERMEDIATE OBJECTIVE Application of the nursing care process in order to solve the main health problems of the adult patients, such as liver disease, kidney disease, dialysis; cardio-vascular problems, such as myocardial infarction; acute and chronic respiratory problems, such as COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), pulmonary neoplasms, and dysmetabolic problems such as diabetes mellitus and cerebrovascular disorders. Understand the methodology of creating nursing care plans by applying the conceptual model of reference. Elaboration of nursing care plans in relation to some internal diseases. Acquire knowledge of guidelines / protocols / procedures for the application / administration of diagnostic / therapeutic procedures and issues related to the care plan. Knowledge of the theoretical elements that support evidence based nursing practice. Knowledge of the main elements of clinical risks related to specific care in the medical area (ministerial recommendations). Knowledge of the elements that characterize the professional responsibility and accountability in the management of health records and management of drug therapy. Knowledge of the possible sources of infection and how to avoid infections. Know how to apply the possible assisting procedures to restrict the spread of infections in the hospital. The role of the nurse in the prevention of health-care infections.

The course aims to provide the student with the necessary tools related to taking charge and managing the person to be subjected to general surgery, in order to develop appropriate nursing care plans and the correct use of clinical risk management tools and nursing documentation. We will also provide the basics related to the research methodology in the nursing area of the surgical area, acquiring the fundamentals of bibliographic research and evidence based practice.
OBJECTIVE INTERMEDIATE: -
Know the surgery hospitalization and treatment settings
Acquire the methodology to develop and define nursing plans applicable to the adult of surgical interest affected by benign and malignant pathologies of the main organs, systems and apparatus
Know the main risk management systems in the surgical field through the application of evidence-based best practices
Know the main complications found in general surgery
Know the laws currently applicable to the health profession and define professional responsibility in the surgical field
Know the practices of recognized efficacy for the prophylaxis of infections related to surgical assistance
Frontal lessons and personal interview
he course consists of teaching a frontal type with the aid of slides to support the arguments and the issues treated. An interactive mode is foreseen to involve the student in a greater participation also through the tools of problem solving, role playing and simulation.

Applications of the phases of the nursing care process in the drafting of an IAP (nursing care plan):
- data collection and classification;
- identification of the need for nursing care/ diagnosis assistance, nursing-collaborative problem;
- formulation of the objectives;
- selection and implementation of nursing actions;
- evaluation.

Elaboration of the nursing care plan with special regard to data collection, which is the most frequent nursing care event and need, as well as, the main way of identifying and responding to the assisted patient’s needs i order to deliver the best and safest nursing assistance:

2. Evaluation and assistance to the patient affected by cerebrovascular disorders;
3. Evaluation and assistance to the patient suffering from diabetes mellitus;
