Learning Objectives

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: To achieve competence in English towards B2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Through reading skills (skimming and scanning), text analysis of authentic touristic advertising, students will develop the critical analysis of touristic advertising.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:Through individual assignments, students will acquire the appropriate knowledge and understanding of the B2+ level of the CEFR according to the social purpose of the touristic text.

MAKING JUDGEMENT:Students will acquire technical competence on textual analysis in order to become independent and critical cultural mediators.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Teacher’s feedback to individual assignments gives to the students the chance of developing their communicative skills according to the social and academic purpose of the language.

LEARNING SKILLS:To improve writing and speaking skills for various types of text.


Course Structure

Lectures and seminars, practical course on translation.



Detailed Course Content

Starting from the theoretical aspect of Linguistics, the students will focus on the Structure of English (in particular morphology, syntax, stylistics and rhetoric). As regards the practical aspect of the language, English varieties in use in the language of advertising and in the language of tourism will be analyzed, in particular, webpages. Theory and practice of tourism advertising translation and text analyses. To achieve linguistic and communicative skills of the B2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. A brief module will be focused on the translation of culture-bound words in the Tourism Promotional Genre.
