Course Structure

The course deals with the main issues dealing with how to conduct a survey. Topics are faced following the logical path for a research activity: problem identification, data collection, elaboration, data analysis, outcomes evaluation.

Detailed Course Content

The subject is divided into three parts.

Module 1 - Sources and indicators.

Data sources. Institutional data sources. Informative statistical systems. Data matching techniques. Data transformations. Ratio and indices classification. Indicators. Composite indicators.

Module 2 - Sampling techniques. Non parametric tests.

Sampling techniques. Sample design. Sample dimensions. Sample bias. Sample selection criteria. One sample non parametric tests: binomial test, χ2, Kolmogorov-Smirnov. Two-dependent samples non parametric tests: McNemar. Two-independent samples non parametric tests: Fisher, χ2, median test, Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney.

Module 3 - Space and time series. Notions of multi-variate statistics.

Time serie: classic and modern approach. Box-Jenkins model, stocastic processes: auto-regressive model (AR), mobile average models (MA), ARMA and ARIMA models.

Principles and logics of multidimensional analysis. Matrices
