BJECTIVES / COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to provide students with the tools for a historical and evolutionary interpretation of planning processes (theory), but also to stimulate the understanding of traditional and innovative planning instruments and the study of different experiences. In particular the knowledge of the main regulatory and cultural references is directed to an town and territorial analysis that sees in the presence of the cultural heritage and environment a key element for the town planning (the means). Finally, the knowledge gained will be compared with an experience of research and in-depth analysis of a topic, chosen from those related to urban planning or among those inherent to transversal themes that give different contributions to the discipline itself (the document).

The path, for educational purposes, will be directed to confirm the cultural attitude had towards the area and environment to trace a logic development which, based on past experience, find a stable definition in the contemporary design; this will enable, through the use of planning instruments, an assessment of the various models and methods found in the study of the territory engineering.

A particular attention will be given to anything related to the "scientific apparatus":

● The bibliographic review with the section of belonging - to detect the sensitivities compared to a topic in a given historical period;

● the specific bibliography on the subject;

● magazines, essays and articles;

● comment on some books considered relevant for the topic;

● students’ bio-bibliographical notes crossing, in addition to the works and life, the themes that have characterized their studies and their historical position.

Purpose of the course

The course will provide some knowledge on the territorial aspects, making use of the contributions of the engineering, architecture and urban planning disciplines, but also of horizontal knowledge that can give different interpretations, in order to address the territorial issues having learned a language and theories which then allow to read or anticipate possible scenarios.

For educational purposes, of an engineer experienced in monitoring, evaluation and management of plans and requalification programs, a concise and accurate reconstruction of the concept of territory, through the thought of some intellectuals, to transfer ideas and thoughts on "territorial projects " will be offered.
