Learning Objectives

The aim of the course is to acquire some familiarity with the most recent Italian literature, in poetry and in prose, through the study of some representative texts and the acquisition of essential historical and critical categories.



Detailed Course Content

Poetry: critical anthology of twentieth century texts;

Prose: in-depth study of three novels or essays from the same period.



Textbook Information

For Poetry:

Franco Fortini, I poeti del Novecento (1977), Donzelli, Rome 2017. (The volume should be studied in its entirety, the texts inside should be carefully paraphrased.) It is recommended to read the preface by PV Mengaldo and especially the final Note by D. Santarone. It is admitted not to study the following poets: G.P. Lucini, R. Bacchelli, Poets in dialect (in various paragraphs), 6th paragraph of chapter IV, F. Leonetti, R. Roversi, A. Porta).

 

For Prose:

L. Pirandello, Uno, nessuno e centomila (possibly in the edition Feltrinelli, ed. by U.M. Olivieri);

Carlo Levi, Cristo si è fermato a Eboli, Einaudi;

E. Vittorini, Uomini e no, Mondadori;

B. Fenoglio, Una questione privata, Einaudi.

(Introductions to these books must be studied)
