Learning Objectives

The course covers the main issues that occupy historians of Byzantium in their attempts to understand that civilization. It presents the sketch of about 1100 years of Byzantine history and introduces the history of Byzantium in the fourth century, when Emperor Constantine founded Constantinople as the “New Rome”, and ends with the fall of Constantinople in 1453 AD.

A) A sketch of Byzantine History (6 CFU).

B) The age of Justinian (3 CFU).

Non-attending students.

Students who do not attend lessons may agree on a program with alternative texts for a number of pages equal to that provided for the course. They must agree timely on their choices with the professor.
